Itinerary in detail
Every Vintage Africa trip is tailored to your personal preferences and interests. Below you’ll find a sample itinerary to inspire your own custom-designed journey.
Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi
Begin your family safari in Kenya with a stay at Hemingway’s Hotel, a luxurious retreat nestled in the peaceful suburb of Karen. Spend your day unwinding in your spacious suite or exploring Nairobi’s attractions. Visit the Giraffe Centre, where kids can interact with endangered Rothschild giraffes, and the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage to meet rescued baby elephants. Conclude the day with a family dinner featuring local and international dishes.
Day 2–4: Borana Conservancy
Fly to Borana Conservancy, one of Kenya’s most exclusive wildlife reserves, and check into Kifaru House or Sirikoi Lodge. Over the next three days, enjoy family-friendly activities tailored to all ages, including game drives to spot rhinos, lions, and Grevy’s zebras. Take a guided bush walk to learn about the smaller creatures of the savannah or visit the conservancy’s conservation initiatives to see firsthand how endangered species are protected. Back at the lodge, relax by the pool or take part in a cooking class to prepare traditional Kenyan dishes. Evenings are spent around the campfire, sharing stories and stargazing.
Day 4–6: Maasai Mara Magic
Fly to the Maasai Mara and settle into Cottar’s 1920s Camp, a luxurious and family-friendly tented camp. Over the next four days, explore the reserve on game drives, witnessing the incredible diversity of wildlife, including the Big Five. Kids will love learning about animal tracking and bushcraft skills during guided walks with expert Maasai guides. For parents, optional spa treatments or private dinners can add an extra touch of relaxation. During the Great Migration season, witness the awe-inspiring river crossings as thousands of wildebeest and zebras brave crocodile-infested waters. End each day with a family-style dinner under the stars, accompanied by the sounds of the African wilderness.
Day 6: Departure
Return to Nairobi with a scenic flight back to Wilson Airport. Depending on your schedule, visit the Karen Blixen Museum or shop for souvenirs at the Maasai Market. Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, taking home unforgettable memories of your family safari.
